Foras na Gaeilge welcomes Conall Ó Máirtín who has been appointed as Deputy Chief Executive/Director of Education Services at Foras na Gaeilge.

Speaking about the appointment, Foras na Gaeilge Chief Executive, Seán Ó Coinn, said:

“Conall Ó Máirtín is joining Foras na Gaeilge at a time of transformation for the Irish language in the north. In the south, there is a constant stream of changes underway across all areas of the education sector. Conall has a wide range of experience in many areas of education across the country – from his role as a teacher, to his recent work with TG4 Foghlaim. I am delighted to welcome him to this vital role as Deputy Chief Executive/Director of Education Services, and on behalf of the organisation I congratulate him on his appointment and wish him all the best as he takes up his duties. As an Irish speaker raised through Irish in the north, who has worked in the Irish-medium education sector, he has a particular understanding of the range of delicate issues relating to the development of the Irish language in the north, and his insights on these issues will be invaluable in the coming years”

Conall took up his duties as Deputy Chief Executive/Director of Education Services at Foras na Gaeilge in the Belfast office at the beginning of May 2026.

Biographical note:

Conall is originally from Tyrone, where he now lives with his family. He has over twenty years of experience working as a teacher and lecturer in the Irish-medium education sector. Conall began teaching in St.Catherine’s College in Armagh and later worked as a lecturer at St. Mary’s University College, Belfast.

Conall graduated with a degree (LLB) and a postgraduate degree (PG Dip) in law from Queen’s University, Belfast, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (T.I.C.O) from St. Mary’s University College, Belfast. He also holds a MA in Modern Irish from Ulster University, Belfast.

He has experience as a presenter and television and radio producer with BBC Gaeilge and TG4, and in 2022 he took up the role of Education Editor with TG4. He has spent several years developing educational resources, educational series and TG4’s Fís Scoile.

With a particular interest in sport, Conall works as a commentator and a presenter on sports programmes on TG4, and has experience as a football player and manager with his club and county.
