At an event in Foras na Gaeilge's offices on Amiens Street in Dublin on Wednesday, Iarlaith Ó Broin, President of the GAA, launched 13 new books published by An Gúm.

Among the books launched were:

• Books for younger readers: Asailín Abú! By Pauline Devine and Misneach i mBetil by Gabrielle Ní Mheachair. Both books were illustrated by artist Fergal O'Connor. Also launched was Níl Éisc le Trust, a translation of one of 2025’s most successful children’s books, Don't Trust Fish by Neil Sharpson.
• Primary Publications and Primary Support Resources: Féach Thart: Eolaíocht - Rang 6 agus Atlas Bunscoile and Atlas Bunscoile. Máire Ní Ghallchobhair is the author of the Féach Thart series and worked as Advisory Editor on Atlas Bunscoile.
• Non-fiction series for primary school children: Inis Seo Dom! A series of 5 non-fiction books aimed at primary school children. In these books, translated by Paul Mac Fheilimidh, interesting facts are presented to the reader in the form of questions and answers. The questions encourage discussion and the answers are written in a concise and clear manner suitable for younger readers of primary school age.
• Fiction for independent readers or adults. Eachtraí Saíd, a translation by Róisín Sheehy of the Catalan novel L'aventura de Saïd by Josep Lorman. New editions of the books An Corpán sa Trunc and Dúnmharú i bPáirc an Chrócaigh by Cathal Ó Sándair edited by Róisín Adams.

Launching the books and resources, Mr Ó Broin spoke about the importance of having a wide selection of interesting and quality publications available to young readers, from school books that encourage and facilitate learning at school or at home, to fiction and non-fiction titles that help set young readers off on their reading journey. Mr Ó Broin said that the selection of books launched tonight reflects the wide breadth of genres that An Gúm publishes in. He congratulated all the authors, translators and artists who contributed to the books and An Gúm on their publication.

Professor Regina Uí Chollatáin, Cathaoirleach of the Board of Foras na Gaeilge also spoke at the event. She also referred to the long history of An Gúm and the wide range of genres they work in. An Gúm will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026 and the Cathaoirleach outlined some of the plans to mark this, including a conference, events for children in libraries and literary competitions. She also spoke about some of the other work being done by An Gúm such as post-primary textbooks, and a review of the integrated Irish-language course for Irish-medium primary schools Séideán Sí, an important joint project funded by the Department of Education and Youth.
