Colmcille Grants Scheme 2020

This scheme aims to promote relations between the language communities of Scottish and Irish Gaeilge and to strengthen Scottish and Irish Gaelic through these relations. There will be two rounds of the grants scheme in 2020:

·         Applications for projects starting in 2020

·         Upper limit €12,000/£10,800 

Round 2:

·         Deadline Thursday 11 October 2020

·         Applications for projects starting in 2020/2021

·         Upper limit €12,000/£10,800

An application can be made for up to 80% of the total costs of the project. The scheme is open to any organisation which is in a position to promote the relations and which has the appropriate documentation.

Youth Events Scheme 2020

Foras na Gaeilge is providing funding for appropriate Youth Events programmes (which must contain a minimum of 12 sessions) through Irish for young people (3 to 18 years of age):

Read more

  • which aim to strengthen the Irish language through a mix of activities;
  • that are not residential events;
  • which will run between 31 August 2020 and 02 July 2021;
  • applications for festivals, competitions or one-off events will not be accepted

Grants are provided out of public funding, and Foras na Gaeilge has statutory duties to ensure value for money for all funded projects.

Foras na Gaeilge recommends to applicants to seek joint funding for projects, when appropriate, and to cooperate with other organisations in order to achieve the best value from the Foras na Gaeilge grant.

We particularly welcome applications from organisations located in areas recognised in Government strategies or legislation.

Summer Camp Scheme 2020

Foras na Gaeilge is providing funding for appropriate Summer Camps through Irish for young people (3 to 18 years of age):

  • which aim to strengthen the Irish language through a mix of activities;
  • that are not residential camps;
  • which will last 5 days;
  • which will run between 22 June and 28 August 2020;
  • which will last at least 4.5 hours each day.

This is a nonprofit scheme to keep the camp fees low for the young people.

Grants are provided out of public funding, and Foras na Gaeilge has statutory duties to ensure value for money for all funded projects.

Foras na Gaeilge recommends to applicants to seek joint funding for projects, when appropriate, and to cooperate with other organisations in order to achieve the best value from the Foras na Gaeilge grant.

Gaeltacht Scholarships Scheme 2020 (FAMILIES)

Foras na Gaeilge welcomes organisations wishing to administer a scholarships scheme for families to apply to the Gaeltacht Scholarships Scheme 2020. This scheme aims to provide an opportunity to families throughout the island, to attend a Gaeltacht course. We will ask grantees to focus on areas in which a large number of disadvantaged people live. We will ask grantees also to focus on providing scholarships to families from Gaeltacht service towns and the Irish language networks.

This scheme aims to provide an opportunity to young people under eighteen years of age who live in the north, as well as adults and families throughout the island, to attend a Gaeltacht course.

We will ask grantees, in conjunction with community groups, schools etc., to focus on areas in which a large number of disadvantaged people live. We will ask grantees also to focus on providing scholarships to people from Gaeltacht service towns and the Irish language networks.

The Mentoring Scheme

Aim: Gives trainee writers an opportunity to get advice regarding their writing and the art of writing in general from recognised writers (mentors).

Support available: A fee of €2,500 for the mentor and a fee of €1,000 for the apprentice. Expenses of no more that €350 available for the mentor.

Target Group: Writers at the beginning of their writing career and recognised writers who are interested in being mentors themselves.

The Commission Scheme

Aim: To distribute funds among Irish language writers in such a way as to ensure a satisfactory supply across the full range of reading categories.

Support available: between €2,000 - €12,000 for the writer and €500 administrative fee for the publisher on publication of the commission.

Conditions of the scheme

The group

  • The group applying is a community group. The name of the group must be the same as the name of the group’s bank account. Statutory bodies, local authorities or current grantees of Foras na Gaeilge are not eligible to apply for this scheme. A copy of the current bank statement of the committee is needed.
  • There are at least five in the group.
  • Irish is the group’s means of communications, but the group has planned activities in the programme of activities in connection with a special interest rather than Irish itself.
