Foras na Gaeilge to make significant investment in community development through the Irish Language Networks Development Scheme 2022-2024

Foras na Gaeilge is delighted to announce that the Irish Language Networks Development Scheme 2022-2024 has been approved at a Foras na Gaeilge board meeting today. The new scheme will be an important development to support Irish language communities to carry out sustainable and strategic planning in areas outside of the Gaeltacht throughout the island.

The budget will have a total budget of up to €4.12 million (€1.376 million on a yearly basis) and the funding period will last three years (from January 2022 to December 2024).

The new scheme arises out of a consultation process which was organised during 2020 on the scheme that would succeed the Irish Language Communities Scheme. Based on the feedback of that consultation, a review approach was developed to make significant investment in promoting, fostering and sustaining the Irish language at community level through language planning principals.

As well as this significant investment, a compensation package is being made available to current grantees of the Irish Language Communities Scheme to provide them with extra support in the extra half of 2021. This fund will be worth €220,000 in total, €10,000/£8,700 for each group, and it aims to support the twenty two groups that are developing language plans throughout the island.

The Irish Language Networks Development Scheme 2022-2024 will be announced before the end of June 2021 when criteria and application forms will be available on www.forasnagaeilge.ie.
