TechFéile 2019

TechFéile 2019

Thursday 14 March 2019, The Black Box Theatre, Galway

The TechSpace Programme is an inspirational and celebratory day for young people and educators alike.

TechFéile is being held this year for the second time in Galway, on the 14 March this week. TechFéile is an Irish version of the Creative Tech Fest event which has been run for several years now by TechSpace. TechFéile will be based around 20 workshops and 10 competitions this year. There will be workshops on a range of different areas concerning media communications and technology; including Weather Workshops, Sports Commentary, Web Design, 3D Printing and Computer Games. This is a wonderful opportunity for schools/youth centres to showcase their achievements and is a celebration of the great work being undertaken by young people in creative technology.

TG4, Conradh na Gaeilge and Camara Education are collaborating with the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht to run this TechFéile event. It is being held in the Black Box Theatre and the aim of the event is to encourage creativity and technology among school children from the Gaeltacht and Gaelscoileanna right across the country. It is expected that over 200 students from Gaeltacht schools and Gaelscoileanna will attend as part of the TechSpace programme.

Among the guests speaking on the day will be television star Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh, and there will be music from the bands Togra from Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne and Driseog from Coláiste Chroí Mhuire, An Spidéal.

Chief Whip and Minister of State for Gaeilge, the Gaeltacht and the Islands, Seán Kyne TD had this to say:

“I am delighted that the TechSpace Programme, as it is now called, is being rolled out nationally this year. My Department has been providing funding annually for this programme since 2015. Funding of €419,108 has been approved for this proposal for 2019 and funding for TechFéile is included in this. TechFéile is an occasion of great pride and inspiration and I am extremely pleased that my Department has been able to fund it again this year. This is the second year that TechFéile has been held and it is a great opportunity for young people to showcase their imagination and creativity. It provides a special opportunity for young people to further their technological and artistic skills while using the Irish language.”

The TechSpace programme has been running for the last 4 years under the aegis of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. https://www.techspace.ie/clartechspace
