Are you a parent or guardian whose children are attending a naíonra or Irish-medium school, or would you like to use more Irish at home with your family? Did you know about the Déan Comhrá booklet from Gaeloideachas, and the videos to go with it?
The Déan Comhrá booklet is made with parents and guardians like you in mind. It is full of simple, practical vocabulary that can be used at home together on a daily basis. There are chapters on a wide range of topics, such as phrases for everyday conversations, school subjects, doing homework, phrases for notes and emails, praise, bedtime, food and drink, and the weather.
If you wish to learn Irish yourself, Gaeloideachas highly recommends that you use this booklet alongside our website irishforparents.ie. You will find many excellent resources on the site which have been specifically developed for the language requirements of parents and guardians of children in Irish-medium education. The website will help you build vocabulary based on relevant topics, help your understanding of spoken Irish through video and audio files and you can learn more about language structures. Your family can even learn some Irish together.
The booklet is available in PDF format here, and you are welcome to order a hard copy as well.
Déan Comhrá is also available in Irish and Ukrainian here.
There is also a Déan Comhrá playlist available on the Gaeloideachas YouTube channel! New videos are added regularly. These videos will help you and your children to practise and master pronunciation, and subtitles are available on all videos. You can find the playlist here.
We hope you have fun on this journey together!
