Foras na Gaeilge is pleased to launch an updated version of our booklet Do Ghairm le Gaeilge, in association with GradIreland.

Since the first edition of this booklet was published, there have been many new job titles added, reflecting developments in the media, social media and information technology (IT) sectors. More information about the different areas of work can be found on pages 8–23. There is still a strong demand in the fields of translation, and in administrative roles in the EU. Further growth in education (all aspects of it) is expected, due to demographic trends.

There are many career possibilities for graduates who are fluent Irish speakers. There are various opportunities available in sectors such as media, information technology, marketing, sales, the voluntary sector, the public sector and the arts to name but a few.

It is not necessary to study Irish at third level to benefit from these opportunities. The most important qualities to get a job where you can use your Irish are a determination to use the language and the ability to identify employers and contacts who can provide this opportunity, regardless of your degree discipline.

It is important to note that these career opportunities are not limited to Gaeltacht areas. Increasingly, many businesses in Ireland are engaging with the Irish language sector to expand their market reach.
