Foras na Gaeilge is delighted to announce that grants worth €95,864 have been approved for 42 festivals to be run during 2019 through the Festivals Scheme 2019. Foras na Gaeilge’s board approved the grants at today’s board meeting.
The Festivals Scheme provides funding to festivals which aim to foster and promote Irish language arts, indigenous arts and the Irish language heritage through the medium of Irish or bilingually, as an integral part of the festival. The festivals give a national and international platform to the arts and have a significant influence on the Irish language community and on the wider community in general.
Foras na Gaeilge Chief Executive, Seán Ó Coinn, said, “They are also important for the Irish language community throughout the country to create social networks through Irish, and for communities to develop themselves as communities in which Irish is used on a regular basis.”
