Nearly €500,000 worth of grants approved and new naíscoil for East Belfast

The board of Foras na Gaeilge have approved a significant number of grants at a meeting on the 23 April.

These include the following grants:

  • €64,970 worth of grants has been approved for festivals which will be held between June and December in 2021 through the Festivals Scheme 2021 (Call 2). Féile Charn Tóchair, Féile Thraidphicnic 2021, Féile Inis Oírr and Féile Liteartha Chorca Dhuibhne will be among the festivals to be held in the second half of 2021. Foras na Gaeilge will support forty seven throughout the island through both calls of this scheme during 2021.
  • €209,126 worth of grants has been approved under the Professional and Amateur Drama Companies Scheme 2021. Aisling Ghéar, Fíbín Teo., High Rock Productions, and Graffiti Theatre Company are among the companies for whom funding has been approved.
  • €141,309 worth of grants has been approved under the Summer Camps Scheme for sixty-five camps throughout the island.

Under the Investment Fund for Establishing Preschool Provision and Childcare 2021, £73,000 is being provided to Naíscoil na Seolta (Turas), which is under the auspices of the East Belfast Mission, for the period of June 2021 to June 2023.

Foras na Gaeilge Chief Executive, Seán Ó Coinn, said, “The establishment of this naíscoil in east Belfast is significant progress and is a wonderful result of the development work carried out by Linda Ervine and her colleagues in the area since Foras na Gaeilge started supporting Turas in 2012. Few of us ten years ago thought that an Irish-medium nursery school would be the result of those efforts to reacquire the Irish language for the unionist community in east Belfast.” 

Éamonn Ó hArgáin, Director of Development Services, was thanked for his service of forty-one years with Foras na Gaeilge and Bord na Gaeilge before that and, he was wished every success as he takes early retirement today.
