The North/South Language Body – Equality Scheme

Under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998, the Language Body (composed of Foras na Gaeilge and the Ulster-Scots Agency) is obliged to prepare an Equality Scheme for approval by the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland.

Under that Section, public authorities, in carrying out their functions relating to Northern Ireland, must have due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity and regard to the desirability of promoting good relations across a range of categories outlined in the Act.

A review of this work is being undertaken at present (autumn 2024) and further information will be published here shortly about a public consultation process on the Equality Scheme.
