Submissions for the 2023 An Post Irish Language Fiction Book Awards are now open. Scroll down to submit your book. Please ensure that submitted titles conform to all eligibility requirements.

  • The book must have been published within the current awards year i.e. between November 1st 2022 and up to and including November 1st 2023.
  • The author must be Irish by birth, citizenship or long-term residence .
  • The book must be original, ie neither a reprint nor a translation or adaptation of a previously-published book.

Submitted titles will be considered by the book-industry panel and the critics and reviewers panel and the composition of the shortlists will be announced on 19th of October. Successful publishers will be notified confidentially in advance.  Due to the volume of submissions we regret that we cannot undertake to notify unsuccessful publishers. Copies of submitted titles are only required if your titles are shortlisted but NOT at the submissions stage. This category is open to creative literature (Fiction) in the Irish language for adults.

Publishers are requested to ensure that shortlisted titles remain in print at the time of the awards and must also ensure that such titles are generally available in the Irish market, ie available from the national wholesalers at appropriate discounts.

An Post Irish Book Awards Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony – 22 November

The Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place in the Convention Centre Dublin on 22 November. Updates will be posted regularly on the Irish Book Awards website https://www.irishbookawards.ie/

Eligibility Criteria

The book must have been published within the current awards year, i.e. between November 1st 2022 to 01 November 2023. The book must be original, ie neither a reprint nor a translation or adaptation of a previously-published book.

Eligibility guidelines for individual awards:

This year’s Foras na Gaeilge award category is open to creative literature (Fiction) in the Irish language for adults.

Additional Eligibility

Publishers are requested to ensure that shortlisted titles remain in print at the time of the awards.

Publishers must ensure that shortlisted titles are generally available in the Irish market, ie available from the national wholesalers at appropriate discounts.

Publishers must also undertake to support the IBAS campaign and awards night, ensuring that any shortlisted author is available to attend.

Publishers should also provide 13 copies of each shortlisted title. (Copies only required if your titles are shortlisted but NOT at the submissions stage).

Adjudication on all eligibility issues will be at the discretion of the Awards’ executive body. Their decision will be final.

Terms and Conditions:

This year’s Foras na Gaeilge award category is open to creative literature (Fiction) in the Irish language for adults.

The successful entrants must be available to attend the presentation ceremony in Dublin on the 22 November 2022.

An application from any author who is a member of the independent adjudication panel, who is involved in the administration of the Irish Book Awards or who is related to any person involved in the Awards or on the judging panel, will not be permitted.

Authors who have made current or previous contributions to IBA are eligible to enter.

How to Submit:

Closing date for entries is 11 September.

The entry form must be completed in full.

Submission of an entry is taken as acceptance of all the terms and conditions of entry.

The submitting party must undertake to support the IBAs campaign and if shortlisted, must attend the awards night at their own expense.

Format of Submissions:

The author name and publisher should be detailed on the application form.

Judging:

All submissions will be judged anonymously.

The Judging Panel’s decision is final.
